Four schools withing the climate and energy model region Lainsitztal are engaging in a project titled “Self-sufficient into the future: through renewable energies – students are learning how!”, which is deals with renewable energies within the region. Students are exploring energy consumption in school and are consequently developing measures for saving energy. In order to create awareness around renewable energies, excursions, for instance to SONNENWELT Großschönau or Welios, are being made. Field trips to energy producers (e.g., power plant Ottenstein, wood pellet plant) are intended to impart students the term “renewable”. Workshops about the topic of renewable energies (e.g., wind turbines), as well as constructing example models that are powered by renewable energies (e.g., solar powered cars, waterwheel) give students the opportunity to become active participants.
