Since the 1980s, Großschönau has been a pioneer in sustainable architecture. From the first biomass heating system in a public building (1982) to the first environmental fair, BIOEM (1986), and the Passive House village—the only one of its kind in Europe (2007)—we have been actively shaping the energy transition for decades.
In 2004, we founded Sonnenplatz Großschönau GmbH as a research and competence center for construction and energy. In 2013, SONNENWELT opened its doors to take visitors on an interactive journey through the history of energy.
Our vision: to increase the speed at which resource-conserving, energy-efficient construction, housing, and living practices are implemented – in the region and far beyond.
