Project Description

Content of the project at hand was the transfer of experiential knowledge from urban “model regions e-mobility”, to rural areas such as the districts Gmünd, Zwettl and Waidhogen /Thaya. Barriers preventing e-mobility were explored and dismantled altogether, but especially within the target group of young road users.

In the districts Gmünd, Zwettl and Waidhogen/Thaya, e-mobility has not been able to push through at the time of the projectstart. For instance, the climate and energy model region Lainsitztal (Gemeinden Großschönau, Moorbad Harbach, St. Martin, Bad Großpertholz, Unserfrau-Altweitra and Weitra) was populated by approximately 8000 citizens. However, according to internal invsetigation, a total of merely 10 people within this area owned an electric car. Despite constantly improving technologies there were still various barriers preventing the transition from regular to electric cars. Therefore, the goal of the project at hand was to identify such barriers, together with other stakeholders. Building on that, suggestions for solutions and measures were created. The gathered know-how was utilized at large-scale, public events, in order to create awareness around e-mobility within the general public. Incentives for accelerating a transition and dismantling bias, included targeted information about and varying trial sessions with different electric vehicles (test drive at events/in schools, raffle of trial days).

Special emphasis lied on the cultivation of awareness in young adults aged 15 to 17, which was achieved via age appropriate workshops in schools. This way, future road users were being met prior to or at the very beginning of their “own, motorized mobility journey” and were able to gather information about electric vehicles and their potential. This paved the way for green, environmentally friendly mobility.
